HSA/FSA Eligible Bras
Post-surgical bras from heart&core are FSA and HSA eligible medical expenses, and your card processes automatically at checkout.
What makes a post-surgical bra FSA and HSA eligible isn't the compression — it's the medical purpose. These bras are purpose-built for recovery from breast, chest, and upper body surgery: reducing swelling, supporting healing tissue, managing surgical drains, and protecting incision sites. That therapeutic function is what distinguishes them from general support wear under IRS guidelines, and it's why they qualify for both account types.
All three heart&core bras meet these standards. Whether you're preparing for surgery or already in recovery, you can use your FSA or HSA balance here.
How to Use Your FSA/HSA Here
Your card works automatically at checkout
heart&core is IIAS-certified through sig-is.org, which means our post-surgical bras are pre-approved as qualified medical expenses in our inventory system. Your FSA or HSA debit card will process at checkout without a separate reimbursement claim.
You don't need a prescription to purchase — but it's worth having one
For IIAS-certified purchases, a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) isn't required at checkout. That said, if your plan requires claim substantiation, or if you're pursuing insurance reimbursement separately, an LMN from your surgeon provides important documentation. It takes one question at your pre-op appointment to get one.
Buying before surgery is the smarter approach
Pre-surgery, you can confirm sizing with full range of motion, have your bras washed and ready before you come home, and plan your FSA spending intentionally during open enrollment. We recommend ordering two to three weeks before your procedure. Questions about which bra fits your surgery and recovery phase? Reach us at info@heartandcore.com.

FAQs: Everything You Need to Know About Bra Eligibility for HSA/FSA
Do I need a prescription to use FSA or HSA funds here?
Do I need a prescription to use FSA or HSA funds here?
No. Because heart&core is an IIAS-certified retailer, your FSA or HSA debit card processes at checkout automatically — no prescription required. If your plan requires manual substantiation or you're pursuing insurance reimbursement, a Letter of Medical Necessity from your surgeon strengthens that process. Ask for one at your pre-op appointment.
Can I use my FSA or HSA to buy before my surgery date?
Can I use my FSA or HSA to buy before my surgery date?
Yes. A pre-surgery purchase made specifically for an upcoming procedure qualifies as a medical expense, and buying before surgery is the approach we recommend. It lets you confirm sizing while you can still move comfortably, have your bras washed and ready when you come home, and plan your FSA spending without the pressure of recovery.
How many bras can I purchase with FSA or HSA funds?
How many bras can I purchase with FSA or HSA funds?
There's no set quantity limit, but purchases should correspond to genuine medical need. Most surgeons recommend three bras for proper rotation during recovery — one to wear while one washes, plus a backup. That's a medically appropriate quantity given compression garment care requirements and typical recovery timelines.
What does IIAS-certified mean?
What does IIAS-certified mean?
IIAS stands for Inventory Information Approval System. When a retailer is IIAS-certified, eligible medical items are pre-identified in their point-of-sale system as qualified FSA/HSA expenses. Your card processes at checkout the same way it would for any other purchase — no forms, no waiting on reimbursement.
Will insurance cover these bras?
Will insurance cover these bras?
It depends on your plan and procedure. The Women's Health and Cancer Rights Act requires most group health plans that cover mastectomy to also cover prostheses and related garments — which includes post-mastectomy bras with internal pockets. A prescription from your surgeon noting medical necessity substantially improves approval outcomes. Contact your insurance provider before surgery to understand what documentation is required.

Which bra is right for your recovery?
Larissa Post-Surgical Bra — if your surgery involves drains
The Larissa is designed for the earliest stage of recovery, when surgical drain management is part of daily life. Built-in drain tabs based on the Prody™ Drainage Bulb Holder keep drainage bulbs lying flat and secure against the body — no safety pins, no improvised solutions. Internal pockets, a medical-grade Velcro® front closure, and adjustable straps carry you from day one through extended recovery. Start here if you're having mastectomy, breast reconstruction, or any procedure that typically involves drains.
Serena Post-Surgical Bra — once drains are out, or if you never had them
The Serena is built for the post-drain phase, or for procedures that don't require drains at all. It shares the Larissa's front-closure design, internal pockets, and fabric construction in a streamlined style suited to breast, shoulder, heart, and lung surgery recovery. If your surgeon has cleared drain removal or your procedure didn't involve drains, the Serena is the right next step.
Shirl Post-Surgical Bra — for limited mobility or longer recovery arcs
The Shirl features a double zipper that allows the front closure to open from the top, the bottom, or both — giving you full adjustability when arm and shoulder mobility is significantly restricted. It's particularly suited to heart surgery recovery, shoulder procedures, and recoveries where body shape changes over a longer period. If standard front closures feel difficult to manage independently, the Shirl is the answer.

Based on the content you shared, yes — the FSA/HSA article states that heart&core bras are approved through sig-is.org, which is the IIAS certification body, and the collection page meta description you already have live references it too. So it's stated consistently across your own content.
That said, if you want to be certain before publishing the new page copy, it's worth a quick internal check that the sig-is.org certification is current and active — certifications can lapse or require renewal, and you don't want that claim live on a high-visibility collection page if anything has changed.
