FAQs
Which heart&core bra should I wear after a lumpectomy?
Which heart&core bra should I wear after a lumpectomy?
We offer three options based on your recovery stage and surgical needs:
- Larissa Bra: Best if your surgery required surgical drains. Features specialized drain management tabs to keep drains secure and comfortable.
- Serena Bra: Ideal for recovery after drains are removed or if your surgery didn't require drains.
- Shirl Bra: Featuring a double zipper that allows for adjustability in the front closure. Perfect for weight loss and accommodating changes in size.
All three bras provide the gentle compression and comfort needed after lumpectomy surgery.
How is a lumpectomy bra different from a regular bra?
How is a lumpectomy bra different from a regular bra?
A lumpectomy bra is specifically designed for the unique needs of breast-conserving surgery recovery. Unlike regular bras, lumpectomy bras feature soft, seamless construction that won't irritate your incision site, gentle compression that reduces swelling without putting pressure on the surgical area, front closures that eliminate the need to reach behind your back when movement is painful, and breathable fabrics that promote healing and comfort. Two of our bras also include pockets for cooling inserts, which can provide relief during recovery or radiation treatment.
Can I wear my lumpectomy bra during radiation therapy?
Can I wear my lumpectomy bra during radiation therapy?
Yes! Many patients continue wearing their lumpectomy bra throughout radiation treatment. The soft, breathable fabrics are gentle on skin that may become sensitive during radiation, and the seamless construction helps prevent irritation. Some patients find the built-in pockets helpful for holding cooling inserts that soothe radiation-affected skin. However, always follow your radiation oncologist's specific recommendations—some may advise going braless during certain periods of treatment if your skin becomes very sensitive.
Will I need a special bra to accommodate asymmetry after my lumpectomy?
Will I need a special bra to accommodate asymmetry after my lumpectomy?
The extent of asymmetry after a lumpectomy varies depending on the amount of tissue removed and your breast size. Our lumpectomy bras feature pockets that can hold soft puffs or breast forms to help balance asymmetry if desired. Many women find that using a puff on the surgical side creates a more comfortable, balanced appearance while tissues settle during healing. The adjustable features also allow you to customize the fit for each side of your body.
Can I use my FSA or HSA to purchase a lumpectomy bra?
Can I use my FSA or HSA to purchase a lumpectomy bra?
Yes! Our lumpectomy bras are FSA and HSA approved through sig-is.org, which means you can use your pre-tax health savings funds to purchase them. Since lumpectomy is a breast cancer treatment, some insurance plans may also provide coverage or reimbursement for post-surgical bras. We recommend contacting your insurance provider to inquire about coverage options.
