FAQs
Which heart&core bra should I wear after a mastectomy?
Which heart&core bra should I wear after a mastectomy?
We offer two options based on your recovery stage:
- Larissa Bra: Best if your surgery required surgical drains. Features specialized drain management tabs to keep drains secure and comfortable.
- Serena Bra: Ideal for recovery after drains are removed or if your surgery didn't require drains.
Both bras feature front closures, built-in pockets for breast forms or puffs, and gentle compression to support your healing.
What's the difference between a mastectomy bra and a post-surgical bra?
What's the difference between a mastectomy bra and a post-surgical bra?
While all mastectomy bras are post-surgical bras, not all post-surgical bras are suitable for mastectomy. A true mastectomy bra includes specific features like pockets designed to securely hold breast prosthetics or forms, drain management, wider coverage under the arms to prevent prosthesis shifting and provide support where lymph nodes may have been removed, and front closures for easier dressing when arm mobility is limited.
When can I transition from a post-surgical bra to wearing a breast prosthesis?
When can I transition from a post-surgical bra to wearing a breast prosthesis?
Most surgeons recommend waiting 6-8 weeks after mastectomy surgery before wearing a weighted breast prosthesis to allow your incisions to fully heal and swelling to subside. During early recovery, you can use lightweight puffs or soft forms in your bra's pockets for symmetry and comfort. Your surgeon or a certified mastectomy fitter will guide you on when your chest is ready for a permanent prosthesis and help you find the right size and type for your body.
How do the pockets in a mastectomy bra work?
How do the pockets in a mastectomy bra work?
Our mastectomy bras feature built-in pockets on each side that are specifically designed to hold breast forms, soft puffs, or cooling inserts securely against your chest wall. The pockets have openings that allow you to easily insert and remove forms, and the design keeps them positioned properly throughout the day without shifting or slipping. You can use one or both pockets, depending on whether you had a single or double mastectomy.
Can I use my FSA or HSA to purchase a mastectomy bra?

Yes! Our mastectomy bras are FSA and HSA approved, which means you can use your pre-tax health savings funds to purchase them.
