FAQs
Which heart&core bra should I wear during radiation therapy?
Which heart&core bra should I wear during radiation therapy?
We offer two options for radiation treatment:
- Larissa Bra: Best if you still have surgical drains from recent surgery. Features specialized drain management tabs to keep drains secure and comfortable.
- Serena Bra: Ideal if your drains have been removed or if you didn't require drains.
Both bras feature soft, seamless construction and breathable fabrics that are gentle on radiation-sensitive skin.
Why is seamless construction important for radiation therapy?
Why is seamless construction important for radiation therapy?
During radiation therapy, your skin becomes increasingly sensitive—similar to a sunburn that develops gradually over several weeks. Seams, underwires, and rough fabric edges can rub against treated skin, causing irritation, discomfort, or even skin breakdown. Seamless bras eliminate these friction points, allowing your skin to rest against smooth, soft fabric throughout treatment.
Can I wear a regular bra during radiation treatment?
Can I wear a regular bra during radiation treatment?
Most oncologists recommend avoiding regular bras during radiation therapy, especially those with underwires, back closures, or decorative elements like lace and seams. These features can irritate radiation-sensitive skin and may even interfere with treatment accuracy if they contain metal components. Radiation bras are specifically designed with soft, non-irritating materials and seamless construction that protects your skin while providing gentle support. Always follow your radiation oncologist's specific recommendations about what to wear during treatment.
How do cooling inserts help during radiation therapy?
How do cooling inserts help during radiation therapy?
Radiation treatment can cause warmth, tenderness, and inflammation in the treated breast area. Our radiation bras feature built-in pockets that hold cooling inserts or gel packs, which can provide soothing relief to radiation-affected skin between treatment sessions. The cooling effect helps reduce inflammation, eases discomfort, and can be especially helpful at night when skin sensitivity often peaks.
Can I use my FSA or HSA to purchase a radiation bra?
Can I use my FSA or HSA to purchase a radiation bra?
Yes! Our radiation bras are FSA and HSA approved, which means you can use your pre-tax health savings funds to purchase them. Since radiation therapy is part of breast cancer treatment, supportive garments designed for this purpose often qualify as eligible medical expenses. Some insurance plans may also provide coverage for post-surgical and radiation therapy garments—we recommend contacting your insurance provider to inquire about your specific coverage options.
