FAQs
Which heart&core front closure mastectomy bra should I wear?
Which heart&core front closure mastectomy bra should I wear?

- Larissa Bra: Best if your surgery required surgical drains. Features specialized drain management tabs to keep drains secure and comfortable.
- Serena Bra: Ideal for recovery after drains are removed or if your surgery didn't require drains.
Why is a front closure so important for mastectomy recovery?
Why is a front closure so important for mastectomy recovery?
After mastectomy surgery, raising your arms overhead can be painful, difficult, or even restricted by your surgeon. Front closure bras eliminate the need to reach behind your back or lift your arms to fasten hooks, making them essential for maintaining independence and dignity during recovery. The easy-access design also allows caregivers or medical professionals to help you dress without causing discomfort, and makes it simpler to check incision sites or change dressings without fully undressing.
Do these bras have pockets for breast forms or prosthetics?
Do these bras have pockets for breast forms or prosthetics?
Yes! Both the Larissa and Serena bras feature built-in pockets designed to securely hold breast forms, prosthetics, puffs, or cooling inserts. The pockets keep everything in place throughout the day so you can move with confidence. The good coverage under the arms helps prevent prosthesis shifting, which is especially important as you adjust to wearing a breast form.
When can I start wearing a breast form or prosthetic with my mastectomy bra?
When can I start wearing a breast form or prosthetic with my mastectomy bra?
The timing for wearing a breast form varies based on your individual healing and your surgeon's recommendations. Many surgeons recommend waiting 6-8 weeks after surgery before wearing a permanent breast prosthetic to allow incisions to fully heal. In the meantime, you can use soft puffs or lightweight forms in the built-in pockets of your mastectomy bra. Always follow your healthcare provider's specific guidance about when it's safe to begin wearing a prosthetic.
Can I use my FSA or HSA to purchase a front closure mastectomy bra?
Can I use my FSA or HSA to purchase a front closure mastectomy bra?
Yes! Our front closure mastectomy bras are FSA and HSA approved through sig-is.org, which means you can use your pre-tax health savings funds to purchase them. Additionally, many insurance plans provide coverage for mastectomy bras and breast prosthetics. While we cannot process insurance directly, we recommend contacting your insurance provider to inquire about reimbursement options for post-mastectomy garments.
